Originators of the original white noise sound machine in 1962, Marpac has recently expanded into the online mattress market with a mattress they dub the “Yogabed”. It’s quite the step up to go from white noise machines to mattresses, however the Yogabed has been thoughtfully constructed by a team with over 50 years’ experience in the sleep industry.

Marpac YogaBed Construction

The Yogabed is a 4-layer all-foam mattresses that utilizes some unique cooling properties throughout. Let’s take a look at the mattress layer by layer to understand its construction further:

Marpac YogaBed Review
Zip-N-Wash Cover

As the name suggests, the Zip-N-Wash cover is able to be easily unzipped from the mattress and washed on its own. The cover is made up of a thin cotton / polyester blend with smart fiber cross-sections woven into it. The smart fiber cross-sections optimise breathability and wick moisture away from the body, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter.

Instant Response Yoga Foam

A 1-inch layer of propriety foam makes up the top layer of the mattress. Created with open-cell technology, the foam is breathable, allowing body heat to pass out of your body and through the mattress for added comfort. This layer of foam cushions the body and responds instantly to any movement. The name “Yogabed” was derived from this layer of foam, which is reminiscent of a yoga mat.

YogaGel™ Memory Foam

A 2-inch layer of YogaGel™ memory foam molds to the contours of your body and helps equalize body weight. The foam is infused with gel to eliminate any heat retention common with memory foams.

High-Density Support Foam

A 5-inch layer of high density support foam helps to give the mattress structure and provides optimal support. The support foam works in tandem with the YogaGel™ Memory Foam to correctly align the spine across a variety of positions. This foam is also constructed with open-cell technology, allowing the mattress to breathe for added coolness and comfort.

High-Density Base Foam
A final layer of high-density base foam makes up the mattress. This foam acts as a durable foundation, increasing the longevity of the mattress.

YogaBed Comfort

For an all-foam mattress, the Yogabed is very comfortable. A lot of effort as gone into making this mattress as cool as possible and the open-cell construction plus cooling gel in the memory foam really does enhance comfort. The mattress does a good job of relieving weight off pressure points and also severely reduces motion transfer, making it an ideal mattress for couples. The mattress is rated as a medium (roughly 6 out of 10) and only comes in one firmness level.

YogaBed Support

The YogaGel™ and high-density foam layers are designed for optimal support. The YogaGel reduces compression and equalizes body weight, which allows your spine to relax and naturally align. Natural spinal alignment reduces pressure on your central nervous system, allowing your body to circulate blood and oxygen freely, improving the quality of your sleep while speeding up muscle recovery. The high-density foam stops you from “sinking” into the mattress which is a common problem with other all-foam mattresses.

We consider the firmness of the Marpac YogaBed mattress to land in this range.

Yogabed Firmness Review

Pros:

High density support foam helps to naturally align the spine, improving circulation, extending periods of deep sleep and aiding muscle recovery
  • Has an authentic 3rd party review hosting agency
  • Great value at $849 (Queen)

Cons:

  • Only one firmness option (medium)
  • Not CertiPUR-US Certified and slight off-gassing upon setup
Value
The YogaBed retails for $849 (Queen), which is decent value in comparison to other all-foam mattresses which typically come in at just under $1,000. Mattress delivery is free throughout the continental US. For every ten mattresses sold, Marpac will give away a mattress to a charity in need.
Trial and Warranty
The YogaBed comes with a 101-night trial and 10-year warranty. We recommend you try the mattress for at least 30 days before making a decision. A 10-year warranty is a little on the short-side compared with other all-foam mattresses.

Conclusion:

For a company that’s specialized in making white noise machines for over 50 years, Marpac’s entry into the online mattress market has been well-received. Their YogaBed™ mattress ticks all the comfort and support boxes and adds some unique cooling properties for added comfort. The Zip-N-Wash cover is a great concept and the memory foam layer does well to equalize body pressure. This allows the high-density polyfoam to support optimal spinal alignment which helps extend periods of deep sleep. While there is only one firmness option, it’s a medium which means a large percentage of the population will find this mattress very comfortable.
