Loom & Leaf Mattress Construction

To understand how Loom & Leaf mattress can make such a large claim, we’ve decided to break the mattress down layer by layer. Here’s what we found:

Loom & Leaf Layers Review

Quilted, Organic Cotton Covering
As soon as you lay eyes on the Loom & Leaf you’ll be impressed with its luxury appearance. The mattress is encased with quilted organic cotton, with the top of the mattress arranged in a series of unique patterns. The material is wrapped tightly and the quilting in the middle of the mattress helps provide additional lumbar support. All quilted patterns are deep set which helps to draw heat away from the body and through the mattress. Unfortunately, the cover can’t be removed, so isn’t machine washable.

Memory Foam with Cooling Spinal Gel
Directly under the organic cotton covering lies a 2-inch layer of convoluted memory foam. Flat on top, the foam is cut into a series of patterns which helps air to escape through the mattress, keeping you comfortable. The middle section of the foam layer includes a cooling spinal gel panel, used to successfully treat the lumbar region, which can trap heat. To counterbalance any heat, the rest of the layer is infused with gel swirls to help the mattress to sleep cool.

5lb Premium Foam
This layer of memory foam is 2.5 inches thick and has a density measurement of 5lb, meaning it’s very durable. Memory foam cushions the body’s pressure points, distributing body weight and relieving aches and pains.

Transition Loft Pad
The 2-inch layer of transition foam helps to marry the softer top layers and supportive base together.

Foundational Support
A final layer of 5.5-inch high density poly foam provides optimal support, in particular for the lumbar region which is already well protected by the mattress cover and gel memory foam layer. This layer of polyfoam gives the mattress its shape and is very durable, meaning the mattress should last well past its warranty.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Comfort

Loom & Leaf mattress lives up to their luxury claims with a mattress that is big on comfort. The quilted organic cotton cover provides fantastic breathability while the top two layers of memory foam gently hug the body across all sleeping positions. Although there is a lot of memory foam in this mattress, they have put measures in place (gel infusion) to make sure the mattress sleeps cool. For those with allergies, the quilted organic cotton cover is certainly a plus.
The Loom & Leaf mattress also offers two different firmness options: relaxed firm (between 5-7) and firm (7.5-8.5). These firmness levels should suit about 90% of people.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Support

It’s clear that Loom & Leaf has spent a lot of time and research on providing optimal support. The organic cotton cover is very tight in the middle of the mattress, with a quilted pattern that gives added support to the lumbar region. Directly under that, the cooling gel pad on the top layer of memory foam gives the lower spine even more love. The support base works well with these top two layers and helps to correctly align the spine. This should ease most common aches and pains associated with sleeping on sub-standard mattresses.

We consider the 2 firmnesses of the Loom & Leaf mattress to land in line with what they have depicted. Keep in mind that an 8 is pretty firm for a lot of folks.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Layer Reviews

  • Quilted organic cotton cover is soft, luxurious and hypoallergenic. Added lumbar support is a bonus
  • The top layer of gel-infused memory foam really does sleep cool. The spinal gel panel is a unique addition and provides comfort in an area that often overheats
  • Second layer of memory foam (5lb density) is very durable and helps to relieve stress caused by pressure points. Provides nice support
  • Durable and supportive base layer of foam
  • Two comfort levels cater to most people

  • Cover can’t be removed
  • The mattress is quite heavy
A Queen Loom & Leaf mattress will set you back $1,299 before any discount codes. This is a couple hundred dollars more expensive than other all-foam mattresses, however the premium materials, spinal gel pad and attention to cooling more than make up that difference. White glove delivery is free in certain cities and they’ll even remove your old mattress for you upon set up. For those outside white glove delivery cities, take care with the set-up of your mattress, as it is quite heavy.
Trial and Warranty
Loom & Leaf offers a 120-day home trial and there’s a cost of $99 if you decide to return the mattress. They guarantee that they never restock returned mattresses which helps with piece of mind. Loom & Leaf also offers a 15-year warranty, which is middle of the road.

The online mattress market is somewhat lacking in premium mattresses and Loom & Leaf has done a good job at bringing a showroom quality mattress online. The organic cotton cover is very well designed with the added lumbar support pattern – a nice surprise. The top level of gel-infused memory foam helps you sleep cool while the gel pad refreshes your lumbar region. The mattress dampens pressure points very well and is comfortable in all positions. Their pricing, set-up service and warranty are all competitive, resulting in a very well-rounded overall package. Are they $3,500 less expensive than similar, showroom quality mattresses? That’s a big call and requires a detailed price comparison, however it’s very clear that this is an excellent value mattress.
